Important Statement from the HSE

“In preparing the Fit2Fit Accreditation Scheme, BSIF and other industry stakeholders have worked closely with the experts in Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Following this scheme is not compulsory and employers are free to take other action to comply with the law. But if you follow this scheme you will be doing enough to demonstrate best practice”

Scheme starts September 1st 2009

Up until now, fit testers of RPE have not been accredited, making the selection of a competent fit tester a matter of luck and guess work. There may be a lack of knowledge, skills, experience and understanding of fit testing, or these may have deteriorated over time. Either way, the wearer of the mask will be risking potential respiratory health problems if it is not tested correctly.

To tackle this issue, the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) has developed a competency scheme in collaboration with the HSE and other industry stakeholders called the ‘Fit2Fit’ Fit Test Providers Accreditation Scheme.

This voluntary scheme is designed to confirm the competency of any person performing face piece fit testing by passing an industry recognised exam, demonstrating that they have a thorough knowledge of the HSE guidance on fit testing and that they know how to fit test in practical circumstances.

The scheme is due to start on the 1st September 2009 and in line with our Mission we will have all of our fit testers accredited through the Fit2Fit Scheme without delay. That way you can be certain of our continued expertise and professionalism.

Additionally we will also be offering courses if you have your own in-house fit testers who you wish to train to become an Accredited fit tester under the Fit2Fit Scheme – see ‘Our Services’ link on the menu. Courses are tailored to your needs and are generally run on site so as to save your time and keep costs as low as possible.
